What Beeston CC say:
!!<>!!'After tootling along our local lanes and up to Holbrook, the first climb of note is the long gentle climb to Alport Heights. A fast twisty descent follows but needs care as lots of cars are parked as you enter Wirksworth.
Next up is the rolling moorland of Carsington Pastures with a very steep exit from Wirksworth. From Longcliffe a safe sweeping descent on the main road leads to two gentle climbs through Parwich with the first feed stop and Milldale.
After Wetton high above the Manifold Valley the real work begins. Descend steeply then leave the Manifold by a vicious climb to Butterton. A lovely section of the main Cheadle road lines you up for the exceptional Elkstone climb, long, varied and eventually turning on to Morridge visited regularly by the Tour of Britain.
A steep descent turns right through Thorncliffe (some will overshoot this turn ;-) Cross the head of the Tittesworth reservoir before the principle 230m climb up to The Roaches.
You're really high up now for the next 8 miles so drink in the views (we hope), in fact you pass through Flash, the highest village in England at 463m. After a cheeky visit to the Axe Edge summit we head for home.
A descent to the lovely village of Longnor then leads to the Crowdicote climb (this year we're going up it!) Cruising high on the moor you are soon flying down through Youlgreave. For some the fun ends here.
Stanton in the Peak isn't a hard climb from this side and feed stop two awaits on the village green. After the feed, take HUGE CARE and take the next descent slowly, it is brutal even in the dry.
After crossing the A6 you are inflicted with the final cruelty that is Rowsley Bar, you won't be forgetting this one in a hurry! The serious climbing ends here and fabulous scenery remains for the last 30 miles if you are in any state to enjoy it.
A long descent high over Matlock Moor's lanes leads through Tansley and a long climb to Crich. A quality descent to Hartshay and the much debated Bridle Lane, a distinct lack of contiguous tarmac on this very short climb gives you something to talk about. There is an alternative, but the loose way is the short way :-)
After this the conventional lanes that lead back to HQ in Bramcote will no doubt come as a relief.'!!<>!!
