Filmed from a riders point of view on a gyro stabilised camera platform with a real-time digital dashboard, this two part download features all 190.5 km of the first stage of the Tour de France ® 2014 route.
PART 1: Starting at the Official Start on the North West of Harewood House the route runs flat and
smooth through Otley, Burley in Wharfedale and Ilkley. Climbing out of Addingham and dropping into
Skipton at 35 km. Heading North on the undulating open roads past Hetton, Cracoe, Kettlewell and
then Buckden before the steep climb to 416m over the Côte de Cray. Steep and twisty on the other
side the route snakes along the valley floor to Newbiggin. Turning left onto the A684 the road opens
up again and flows through Aysgarth and towards Hawes. Distance 95.23 kms.
PART 2: You’re quickly into Hawes turning right to climb the renowned and stunning ‘Buttertubs
Pass’. A steady climb to 532 metres, it’s the views coming down the other side that are breathtaking,
the bends can catch you out and dry stone walls and Armco are unforgiving! Turning right at the
bottom you run along the idyllic valley through Muker, Gunnerside and Grinton. The last big climb of
Stage 1 over Grinton Moor, 383 meters, slowly dropping down past the Army ranges to Leyburn. The
stage opens up and flattens out through Masham, Ripon. Then fast and flat all the way to Harrogate.
Due to the one way route in Harrogate the last 500 metres has not been filmed.
Total distance 190 kms. Total Climb 2500 metres.
